Why songwriter advice is different

The jobs diverge quickly. A songwriter's work is judged in rooms full of other people, often on the day, and the skill that separates careers is not writing the best line available. It is writing usable lines quickly while several other people are talking, then being willing to lose most of them without making it awkward. That is a social skill as much as a craft one, and nobody warns you about it.
