What are 3 things music producers can do to elevate their game?

The answer in the video comes from a manager who works with multiple Grammy-nominated producers, so his three are worth hearing from him rather than paraphrased by us. Watch it at the top of the page.

Why the question gets asked that way

What we will add is why the question gets asked in that shape at all.

Producers tend to look for improvements inside the music, because that is the part they control and enjoy. But the gap between a producer with a hundred placements and one with none is very rarely a hundred placements' worth of talent. It is usually made of things that sit just outside the beat: who hears it, how quickly it comes back when someone asks for a change, whether the folder they receive makes sense, whether you are easy to find.

That is uncomfortable, because it means the highest-leverage improvements available to most producers are not musical ones. It is also good news, because those are far easier to fix than talent.
